Dauenhauer sammelt wichtige Meisterschaftspunkte
Am vergangenen Wochenende vom 17. bis 19. Mai fand der zweite Lauf der NASCAR Europameisterschaft auf dem 4,085 Kilometer langen Autodromo di Vallelunga in Campagnano di Roma (Italien) statt. Für den Mörlenbacher Tobias Dauenhauer und sein Team Bremotion aus Frankfurt stand somit das zweite Rennwochenende der Saison auf dem Programm.
Während man in den beiden Trainingssitzungen am Freitag noch einige Einstellungen am NASCAR Chevrolet Camaro austestete, ging es am Samstagmorgen in das Qualifying. Dauenhauer schaffte es, sich für die Superpole zu qualifizieren (Top 10 des Qualifyings) und konnte mit einer fehlerfreien Runde in der Superpole den dritten Platz belegen. Von Startplatz drei aus ging es somit am Samstagmittag bei sommerlichen Temperaturen in den ersten Rennlauf. Dauenhauer erwischte einen guten Start und konnte den dritten Platz in der ersten Runde behaupten. Durch einen im Kiesbett gestrandeten Konkurrenten kam es im weiteren Rennverlauf zu einer Gelbphase und alle Teilnehmer mussten die Geschwindigkeit für kurze Zeit verlangsamen und es herrschte Überholverbot. Nach Aufhebung der Gelbphase gelang Dauenhauer ein guter Restart und er konnte kurzzeitig schon auf Platz zwei vorfahren. Eine Kurve später wurde der 26-Jährige jedoch von einem anderen Teilnehmer von der Strecke gedrängt und verlor dabei einige Positionen. Im Laufe des Rennens konnte sich der Mörlenbacher wieder nach vorne arbeiten und belegte den vierten Platz im ersten Rennlauf.
Beim zweiten Rennlauf am Sonntag ging Dauenhauer von Startplatz fünf aus ins Rennen. Beim Start musste der ADAC Hessen-Thüringen Förderpilot zwei Positionen hergeben und rutschte auf Platz sieben zurück. Während des Rennens war der 26-Jährige in vielen Zweikämpfen verwickelt und packende Rennaction war geboten. Schlussendlich konnte Dauenhauer sich wieder vorkämpfen und auf Platz fünf die Ziellinie überqueren.
Dauenhauer nach dem Rennen: „Es ist ärgerlich, dass wir im ersten Rennlauf am Samstag auf Platz zwei liegend von der Strecke gedrängt wurden und viele Positionen dadurch verloren haben. Hier wäre sicherlich ein Podiumsplatz drin gewesen. Im zweiten Rennlauf erwischte meine Startreihe leider keinen guten Start und ich musste zwei Positionen hergeben. Platz fünf am Ende in diesem Rennen war dadurch leider das maximal Mögliche. Auch wenn Podiumsplätze und Rennsiege mein Ziel sind, haben wir trotzdem wichtige Punkte für die Meisterschaft einfahren können und ich freue mich schon jetzt auf das nächste Rennwochenende in England.“
Schon in zwei Wochen geht es für Dauenhauer und sein Team Bremotion am 07. bis 09. Juni mit dem NASCAR GP UK in London (England) auf dem legendären Brands Hatch Indy Circuit weiter.
Dauenhauer gathers important points for the championship
Last weekend from May 17th to 19th the second round of the NASCAR European Championship took place at the 4.085 kilometer long Autodromo di Vallelunga in Campagnano di Roma (Italy). For Tobias Dauenhauer and his team Bremotion from Frankfurt, the second race weekend of the season was on the agenda.
While a few settings on the NASCAR Chevrolet Camaro were tested in the two training sessions on Friday, qualifying began on Saturday morning. Dauenhauer managed to qualify for Superpole (top 10 of qualifying) and was able to take third place with a faultless lap in Superpole. Starting from third place on the grid, the first race started on Saturday afternoon in summery temperatures. Dauenhauer had a good start and was able to maintain third place on the first lap. Due to a competitor stranded in the gravel bed, there was a yellow phase later in the race and all participants had to slow down and overtaking was not allowed for a short period of time. After the yellow phase, Dauenhauer had a good restart and was briefly able to move up to second place. However, one corner later, the 26-year-old got pushed off the track by another participant and lost some positions as a result. During the course of the race, Dauenhauer was able to fight his way back forward and took fourth place in the first race.
In the second race on Sunday, Dauenhauer started the race from fifth place on the grid. At the start, the ADAC Hesse-Thuringia sponsored driver had to give up two positions and dropped back to 7th place. During the race, the 26-year-old was involved in many duels and exciting racing action took place. In the end, Dauenhauer was able to fight his way back and crossed the finish line in fifth place.
Dauenhauer after the race: “It is unfortunate that we were forced off the track in second place in the first race on Saturday and lost many positions as a result. A podium place would certainly have been possible here. Unfortunately, my starting row didn't get a good start in the second race and I had to give up two positions. Thereby fifth place at the end of this race was the maximum possible. Even though podium places and race victories are my goal, we were still able to score important points for the championship and I’m already looking forward to the next race weekend in England.”
In just two weeks Dauenhauer and his team Bremotion will be heading to the NASCAR GP UK on June 7th to 9th in London (England) at the legendary Brands Hatch Indy Circuit.
