Dauenhauer startet mit Podiumsplatz in die neue Saison
Am vergangenen Wochenende vom 12. bis 14. April eröffnete die NASCAR Europameisterschaft ihre Saison unter hochsommerlichen Bedingungen und strahlendem Sonnenschein auf dem Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spanien. Der Mörlenbacher Tobias Dauenhauer trat erneut mit seinem Team Bremotion aus Frankfurt in die neue Saison ein. Ein starkes Feld von 24 internationalen Fahrern versprach spannende Rennaction für die diesjährige Meisterschaft.
Während der Trainingssitzungen am Freitag zeigte sich Dauenhauer in seinem NASCAR Chevrolet Camaro sichtlich wohl und sicherte sich insgesamt den 4. Platz. Am Samstagmorgen folgte das Qualifying, wo der ADAC Hessen-Thüringen Förderpilot den 3. Platz belegte und sich für die Superpole (Top 10 des Qualifyings) qualifizierte. In der Superpole verbesserte er sich weiter und eroberte den 2. Startplatz für den ersten Rennlauf am Samstagmittag. Bei Rennstart nutzte er die Traktion seines V8-Boliden optimal und übernahm sofort die Führung. Der 26-Jährige konnte sich einen Vorsprung aufbauen, doch kurz vor Rennende ereilte ihn ein Antriebsdefekt, der ihn zur Aufgabe zwang. Aus einem sicheren Sieg wurde so ein Ausfall im ersten Rennlauf der neuen Saison.
Entschlossen konzentrierte sich Dauenhauer auf den zweiten Rennlauf am Sonntagmittag, startete erneut aus der ersten Startreihe auf Platz 2. Nach dem Start fiel er auf Platz 3 zurück, konnte sich aber in einer Dreiergruppe zusammen mit den Führenden vom Rest des Feldes absetzen. Über das gesamte Rennen hinweg fand er jedoch keinen Weg an seinen Kontrahenten vorbei und sicherte so den dritten Platz im zweiten Rennlauf des NASCAR GP von Spanien.
Nach dem Rennen äußerte Dauenhauer: “Natürlich ist es ärgerlich, dass wir im ersten Rennlauf so kurz vor dem Ende ausfielen, obwohl der Sieg zum Greifen nahe war. Dennoch bin ich mit dem Saisonstart zufrieden, da wir beweisen konnten, dass wir das Tempo haben, um Rennen zu gewinnen. Der Podiumsplatz im zweiten Rennlauf war ein versöhnlicher Abschluss des Wochenendes. Ich danke meinem Team Bremotion für ihre harte Arbeit und die schlaflosen Nächte, die sie in Kauf nahmen, um das Auto wieder perfekt vorzubereiten.”
Dauenhauer freut sich bereits auf die weiteren Rennen und blickt optimistisch auf den NASCAR GP von Italien, der vom 17. bis 19. Mai in Vallelunga bei Rom stattfinden wird.
Dauenhauer starts the new season with a podium finish
Last weekend from April 12th to 14th, the season opener of the NASCAR European Championship took place at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain, under midsummer temperatures and bright sunshine. Tobias Dauenhauer commenced the new season with his team Bremotion from Frankfurt. A competitive field of 24 international drivers promises exciting racing action for this year's championship.
In the training sessions on Friday, Dauenhauer felt visibly comfortable in his NASCAR Chevrolet Camaro, finishing fourth overall. The qualifying took place on Saturday morning, where the ADAC Hesse-Thuringia sponsored driver secured third place and qualified for the Superpole (top 10 of the qualifying). Dauenhauer showed further improvement in the Superpole, achieving second place on the grid for Saturday afternoon's first race. He managed to perfectly translate the traction of his V8 car onto the asphalt, taking the lead immediately. Throughout the race, the 26-year-old managed to distance himself from the rest of the field, building a significant gap. However, the drama unfolded on the penultimate lap when Dauenhauer had to park his Camaro due to a drive defect, turning a near-certain victory into a retirement from the first race of the new season.
Unfazed, Dauenhauer focused on the upcoming second race on Sunday afternoon. Starting from the front row again in second place, he was forced to the outside lane at the start, dropping to third place. In a leading trio, they managed to distance themselves from the rest of the field. Nevertheless, the ADAC Hesse-Thuringia sponsored driver could not find a way past the opponents ahead and thus secured third place in the second race of the NASCAR GP Spain.
After the race, Dauenhauer commented, “Of course, it is unfortunate that we had a retirement so close to the end of the first race of the new season, even though the victory seemed within reach. Nonetheless, I am pleased with the start of the season as we demonstrated that we have the pace to win races. The podium finish in the second race was a conciliatory conclusion to the weekend. I would like to thank my team Bremotion, who worked tirelessly over the weekend and endured sleepless nights to get the car perfectly prepared again.”
Dauenhauer is eagerly anticipating the upcoming races and looks forward to the NASCAR GP Italy, which will take place from May 17th to 19th in Vallelunga, near Rome.
