Nach seinen beiden Siegen in Vallelunga (I) ist Tobias Dauenhauer (22) der Senkrechtstarter in der hart umkämpften „NASCAR Whelen Euro Series" 2020. Schon wird er als Titelanwärter gehandelt, denn sein erster Start in Italien und der erste Sieg eines Deutschen in der NASCAR waren sehr beeindruckend! Am letzten Wochenende standen nun die Rennen 3 und 4 in Zolder (B) im Kalender. Tobias Dauenhauer reiste top vorbereitet nach Belgien. "Ich habe mich noch am Simulator bestens auf die Rennstrecke in Zolder vorbereitet!"

Regen und Kälte machten aber das Rennwochenende in Zolder zu einer Reifenlotterie. Im ersten Training wieder Platz 1, damit bestätigte Tobias, dass seine Erfolge von Vallelunga (I) keine "Eintagsfliegen" waren. Nur im Qualifying wurde er von seinem Teamkollegen Martin Doubek um 32/100 Sek. geschlagen: Startplatz 2 und erste Startreihe. Gute Voraussetzungen für das erste euroNASCAR 2 Rennen am Samstag, auch für sein "MOMO Hendriks Motorsport Team aus Holland"!

Tobias Dauenhauer teilt sich den 400 PS starken #50 Ford Mustang mit dem euroNASCAR Champion (2019) Loris Hezemans (NL). Hezemans startete am Samstagmorgen in der euroNASCAR Pro, hatte aber im Regen Probleme mit der Technik, u.a. mit der Schaltung. Damit Tobias Dauenhauer für sein Rennen, einige Stunden später, wieder einen intakten Rennwagen zum Start bringt, wurde das Getriebe repariert. Doch die Reparatur dauert länger als gedacht, und Tobias konnte erst 30 Sekunden vor Schließung der Boxengasse zum Start rausfahren. Von Startplatz 2, bei Rennbeginn, konnte Tobias noch gut mithalten, doch bei nasser Fahrbahn hatte das Team wohl nicht den passenden Reifendruck eingestellt. Und so bemühte sich Tobias, beim 15 Runden Rennen, den Renner auf der Fahrbahn zu halten. Nur Platz 10! "Es waren unglückliche Zusammenhänge, erst durch die Getriebe Reparatur fast zu spät am Start und der falsche Reifendruck, dadurch war es mir nicht möglich in der Spitzengruppe mitzuhalten!"

Das sollte im zweiten euroNASCAR 2 Rennen am Sonntag besser werden. Zur Startaufstellung zählte das Ergebnis vom Samstag. Nur Startreihe 6. Regen und Kälte machten allen Teilnehmern wieder zu schaffen. "Aus dem Mittelfeld heraus, bei der Witterung, an die Spitze zu kommen, war auch für mich unmöglich."

Zu viele Crashs bei nasser/feuchter Strecke zwangen zu einigen Safety Car Phasen, die ein normales Rennen nicht zuließen, "dazu bekam ich wegen einer Kollision mit einem Kontrahenten, im harten Zweikampf, eine 15 Sekunden Strafe, die mich auf den 13. Platz zurück warf." So wurde das Rennen hinter dem Safety-Car nach 15 Runden beendet! "Schade, durch Regen und Kälte war das Rennwochenende in Zolder für mich kein guter Abschluss."

In der euroNASCAR 2 Meisterschaft 2020 liegt Tobias Dauenhauer, mit nur 2 Punkten Abstand (131), jetzt vorne auf Platz 2!

Beim nächsten Rennen am 14./15. November in Most hofft Tobias wieder aufs Podium.

Following his pair of wins at Vallelunga (I), Tobias Dauenhauer (22) is the revelation in the hard-fought 2020 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series. He is already being considered as a title candidate as his first participation and the first-ever win for a German driver in NASCAR competition were really impressive.

Last weekend, the circuit of Zolder(B) was the venue for the third and fourth race of the season. Tobias Dauenhauer was excellently prepared as he headed to Belgium. “I prepared for the races at the circuit of Zolder on the simulator,” he explained.

Rain and cold turned the race weekend at Zolder into a tyre gamble. Dauenhauer ended up fastest in first practice, confirming that his success from Vallelunga was no fluke. In qualifying, his teammate Martin Doubek beat him by merely 32 hundredths of a second: second place on the grid, a front row start. Good conditions for the first Euro-NASCAR 2 race on Saturday, also for his team MOMO Hendriks Motorsport from The Netherlands.

Tobias Dauenhauer is sharing the 400 hp strong #50 Ford Mustang with the 2019 Euro-NASCAR champion, Loris Hezemans (NL). On Saturday morning, Hezemans started in the Euro-NASCAR Pro race, but had problems with the transmission in the rain. To ensure that the car would be good to race again for Tobias Dauenhauer in his race, a few hours later, the gearbox was repaired. However, repair lasted longer than expected and Dauenhauer was only able to exit the pit lane to take up his slot on the grid 30 seconds before the pit lane closed. From second place on the grid, he was initially able to keep up, but for a wet track, the team hadn’t achieved the correct tyre pressure. As a result, Dauenhauer was struggling to keep the car on track during the 15-lap race. His result: only 10th place. “It was an unfortunate situation: first, I was almost too late for the start due to the gearbox repair and then I had the wrong tyre pressure. As a result, I was unable to keep up with the group at the front.”  

That was to change in the second Euro-NASCAR 2 race on Sunday. The race result from the previous day determined the starting grid positions, so Dauenhauer was only on the sixth row. Rain and cold again made life difficult for all the competitors. “Making it all the way up from the midfield to the front in these weather conditions was impossible for me as well,” he reported.

To many crashes on a damp track led to multiple safety car interventions that prevented regular racing. “On top of that, I was given a 15-second time penalty for a collision with an opponent in the hard duel that made me drop back to 13th,” Dauenhauer commented. The race ended behind the safety car after 15 laps. “Too bad, due to the rain and cold, the race weekend at Zolder didn’t end in a good way for me.”

In the 2020 Euro-NASCAR 2 championship standings, Tobias Dauenhauer is currently second at 131 points, only two points down on the leader.

In the next races, 14/15 November at Most (CZE), Dauenhauer again aims at a podium finish.
